The main role of a UPS power supply is to provide a secondary, back up source of power. Essentially an instantaneous battery, UPS are used to protect computers and any memory-based electronic equipment. Computers comprise important but fragile hardware components which can be susceptible to damage caused by sudden power failure. UPS systems are designed to safeguard them by providing instant-switch battery power protection if a mains surge, blackout or other power event.
As already mentioned, UPS’ main function is to provide a temporary yet constant source of uninterruptible power. However, it’s important to note that UPS are not designed to give long-term backup power to connected devices without mains power. In other words, UPS cannot be used to provide alternative power to computers, or other hardware, without using a mains power supply. Instead, a UPS will provide an opportunity to perform a controlled shutdown should the regular power source suddenly fail.
The advantages of installing a UPS are clear as they offer a safe way to protect your mission critical data and hardware; protecting you from costly downtime and lost revenue.
